      Education with a Purpose

      Education with a Purpose
Our students are seen as individuals created in the image of God. Our goal is to cultivate wisdom, holiness, and the ability to share goodness. The mission of St. Louis Catholic School is to prepare leaders of tomorrow with the light of Christ as their guide.

      Integrated Curriculum
Our approach sees education as a holistic endeavor, in that we aim to illuminate the connection between academic content and the Gospels.

Teachers develop instruction based on the state standards, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and religion curriculum established by the Diocese of Austin.  The school subscribes to the TEKS Resource System, and teachers participate in required training annually to stay current in methods and content.

      Authentic Catholicism
Sacred Scripture and Tradition are integral across all grades.  By regularly attending Mass, praying the rosary, and receiving Reconciliation together, our students are active participants in the sacramental life of the Church.  Class retreats and whole-school Virtue assemblies are part of our routine and deepen students' connection to the faith.

      Education in Virtue
Character formation is as crucial as intellect. The school utilizes Disciple of Christ Education in Virtue curriculum developed by the Dominican Sisters of Mary.  Simply put, the virtues are a habit of doing good.  Each month students focus on a specific virtue and additionally study the lives of virtuous saints.

      Elective Offerings
Students are able to enhance their skills and prepare for academic challenges through electives that promote critical thinking skills.  Electives include Logic: The Art of Persuasion, Service Learning, Makerspace, Art, Band, and Yearbook. Students in the Yearbook class are responsible for the creation of the annual yearbook developed through yearbook publisher, Treering.

Middle school students additionally have a unique Friday enrichment course rotating: Spanish Culture, Marian Art, Graphic Design, and Cartooning every nine weeks.

      Standardized Testing
All Diocese of Austin students in grades 1-8 take the nationally normed NWEA MAP Growth standardized assessment three times during the school year. This assessment is one source of evidence on student growth and learning. Paired with classroom performance outcomes, this assessment data helps to create a larger profile of student progress. The student’s individual MAP Growth scores are sent home within a few weeks of testing.

Students in kindergarten through grade 5 are assessed in literacy skills through DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic
Early Literacy Skills) assessment. DRA (Development Reading Assessment) is additionally utilized in kindergarten
through grade 2. The intent of these assessments is to monitor student development, inform classroom instruction, and early identify the need for possible interventions.

Students in grades 5 and 8 will have an assessment of religion knowledge through the ARK online assessment in the spring.
