Welcome to St. Louis King of France Childhood Ministry Program. Our Religious Education program prepares our children for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation. The program also offers basic religious knowledge and continuing faith formation for children in grades Pre-K through 8th grade. But, it is not just a Religious Ed. Program; it is a journey of faith that continues through life. It begins with the parents at home and is reinforced by our weekly classes. Our programs are as varied as the instruction we utilize which includes: teaching to learning styles and multiple intelligence; Catechesis of the Good Shepherd uses a catechetical approach inspired by Montessori methodology; Sacramental Preparation for First Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation is enhanced with activities and retreats; and The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) adapted for children gives the children opportunities to participate in rites and blessings.
Classes begin in October and take place every Wednesday through May.
Please discuss with your child the importance of being respectful toward their catechist, co-teachers and aides. Also, please stress the importance of behaving appropriately while in class and in church. You may also want to explain, in your own words, why your child is a part of the faith formation program. Parents play a vital role in the preparation of their child. Parents are required to attend to an Orientation Meeting in which they are given information about the program and other seasonal events like Advent and End of the Year Parties. Parents of children in the second year of R.E. (Sacramental Preparation Class) are also required to attend retreats and weekly meetings that take place while their child is in class. They share in this great responsibility of preparing their child to receive the Sacraments and in forming their faith.
Required first and foremost is a desire to learn more about your faith. The family must be registered parishioners at St Louis King of France Catholic Church. It is a two-year process for First Communion and Confirmation and children must attend both years of classes to receive the sacrament. Parents whose child is to receive their First Communion or Confirmation must provide a copy of their child's Baptismal Certificate at the time of registration.
